EMODnet Seabed Habitats in Rome
JNCC’s current tenure as the leader of the EMODnet Seabed Habitats initiative (providing a one-stop-shop portal for access seabed habitat data for all of Europe’s seas) is coming to an end. We marked the end of this phase with a meeting between all partners in Rome, at the offices of the Italian national institute for environmental protection and research (ISPRA). Here we finalised the deliverables and made plans for the future. At the meeting we presented our progress and had a first round of quality checks. The new maps are available on the EMODnet Seabed Habitats portal from May. JNCC was responsible for a major redesign of the web portal; this new-look portal is easy to use and intuitive and hosts all available data and maps on seabed habitats in Europe. This includes over 800 individual habitat maps from survey, complete with metadata, and over 100,000 sample points.
