Process for submitting point data
To contribute your data to EMODnet Seabed Habitats, the data must be in a standardised ingestible format to allow it to be combined with datasets from other organisations.
To help you with the submission process, EMODnet Seabed Habitats have created a step-by-step guide to walk you through the template to send your data in.
For offline viewing, data files are available to download in the data provider package for point datasets at the bottom of this page.
To view/hide the guidance for undertaking a step, please click on the relevant heading.

Step 1 - Download and Complete the Excel Template

To help you do this, we have created a template to standardise all data submissions. There are three Excel templates to choose from, each with the capacity to hold different sized datasets. These are: 500, 1,000 or 10,000 data points.
Users will need to select the appropriate sized template to incorporate their dataset.
You will need to download one template for each dataset you wish to submit, further guidance is available in the downloadable pdf document.
-
Step 2 - Complete the Data Provider Agreement
File Type Last Modified Template: Data Provider Agreement .doc 26/03/2020 The Data Provider Agreement template should be completed for each dataset supplied to EMODnet Seabed Habitats. Multiple datasets can be entered onto one form, with each point dataset listed by its "Dataset ID Number".
If the dataset does not originate from your organisation, please enter the name of the owner in the relevant column so that they may be attributed properly.
Any usage limitations should be described in sections 2.3 and 3 of the template.
Once completed, please ensure the document is signed before submitting the data provider package.
-
Step 3 - Submit the 'Data Package' for Validation
Your completed Point Data Submission Template spreadsheet and signed data provider agreement should then be sent together to "EMODnetSeabedHabitats@jncc.gov.uk", where your data will be validated. Data that does not pass the validation test will be returned to the sender to rectify.
For data passing the validation test, EMODnet Seabed Habitats will then:
- Add the data to the webGIS layer for "habitat points" on the EMODnet Seabed Habitats Map Viewer
- Enter metadata for each dataset into the ICES GeoNetwork metadata catalogue
- Archive the data provider agreement
The data submission process for Habitat Point data is summarised in Figure 1 below.
