The home of European Seabed Habitat Maps

The EMODnet Seabed Habitats website provides a permanent single portal for accessing seabed habitat data in Europe. This includes the EMODnet broad-scale seabed habitat map for Europe(AKA EUSeaMap) and habitat maps from surveys across Europe.

About

The EMODnet portal for Seabed Habitats is a free resource for marine habitat data in Europe

[CMEMS:5014] SEAICE_GLO_SEAICE_L4_NRT_OBSERVATIONS_011_001 – False ice in sea ice concentration
Fri, 09 Dec 2016 15:23

The product SEAICE_GLO_SEAICE_L4_NRT_OBSERVATIONS_011_001 contains spurious ice measurements in the ice concentration fields.

The principle causes of the spurious ice are believed to be as follows:

– Ice concentrations are now provided all the way to the coast, whereas this product had a zone along the coast with unclassified pixels.
Measurements near the coast can contain spurious ice, due to land spill over effects.
– this product had a T2m filter, which removed false ice where the 2m temperature from ECMWF was warmer than 8°C; however, this is no longer applied.
– Differences in how the old version product ice concentration algorithm is implemented compared the new version product may also be a factor.

Actions are in progress to remove the spurious ice.
